Hi,

I am a student working on a project to help out local high street, with the focus on making offline product information searchable on Google.

I am in middle of research about EPOS system and its capacities, so would like to hear from experts for advice.

I am not sure if this is the right channel, but worth a try, I guess.

All the best.
Thanks

Hi Lee, our software has EPOS included. What do you need to know about EPOS and I'll see if I can help.
Hi Alison thank you for reply. There are a few basic questions I would like to have answer.
1, Is EPOS system capable of generating live accurate inventory level?
2, Who does own the data in the EPOS, the shop owner or the EPOS manufacturer?
3, Can the shop owner share some data from the EPOS to third party?
Of course, more detail of how EPOS system working will be good.

Thanks in advance

Hi Lee, there are different types of EPOS and from your questions, I think the ones you are referring to are standalone systems which tie into the manufacturers/suppliers systems and manage the stock centrally. Like the sort of thing Tesco's would have, but of course theirs are bespoke and written especially for them. Unfortunately I don't know much about those kind of systems.

However EPOS stands for Electronic Point of Sale, so it is any till that is run electronically (rather than the old fashioned POS systems which were stand alone tills).

So I'll tell you what our system does, which should hopefully help from one perspective.

Our software runs off a standard PCs (or in the cloud) and includes a software EPOS. All the PCs talk to each other, plus it can be connected to a website and the stock levels are updated real time for a live accurate inventory levels. We deal with a lot of servicing companies, so goods can be allocated to jobs, before being fully removed from stock, so not only do our clients know how much stock they have at any one time, they also know how much is allocated and to which jobs,

All our clients (ie the businesses that purchase our software) own the data in the EPOS, however obviously we own the source code of the software itself and we just license them the use of the software. We have a API module that allows some clients to custom write plug ins so they can get the data direct off their suppliers - I don't know in this scenario who would own the data, as it would be covered under the agreement between our clients and their suppliers.

Our clients would be able to, if they wished share their data with a 3rd party, as they own the data themselves.

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you have any other questions.
