Hey there - so I'm wondering if anyone with experience running or owning a green, sustainable or ethical company can say if there was a particular nuance or knack to marketing it?

It would be interesting to know if, for instance, content marketing was much more important or if it revolved around case studies, for instance.

Thanks!
Nick

@Nicholas Prangnell, marketing is marketing! Essentially it starts with research and coming up with a plan, basically whatever marketing you do it's about identifying your customers, what do they want, where are they, do you provide the solution they want, where do they look for the solution you provide?

You then come up with a plan to create the right services/products and compelling stories/messages for these customers and market to them in the right place, whether that's online, socially, in local press or radio, nationally on TV etc.

We work with a green client, but two of their main services work very differently, we've learnt this from research, then testing and measuring the planned marketing. One service works well on a green message, the other is more mainstream and mainly about the service, qualifications and professionalism, green is way down on the list and doesn't drive leads/sales...

I have done marketing for a number of green companies and social enterprises.

The principles are the same as any other marketing. Understand what sets you apart from your competitors, what key benefits you offer your customers, have a clear understanding of who your customers are, how to target them and have a marketing budget and know how that enables you to do this.

What do you mean whether content marketing is more important? More important than.....?

The overall process is definitely the same however it is important how well you are creating your marketing strategy to effectively reach out to the audience varies from industry to industry. So it is essential to do your research at ground level in your industry before venturing out with various forms of marketing.

Yes, there is no much difference in marketing. However, before going for green marketing, your words should be backed up with sincere devotion. Going green can also add costs to your products. So, keep in mind that sustainable products are more costly than conventional alternatives
